Abstract: The HMQC and HMBC spectra of icariin,a natural flavonoid isolated from theaerial parts of Epimedium grandiflorum, whid showh evident hypotensive action, were studied for the first time. The signals of protons in 1H NMR and carbons in 13C NMR of the Compound were assigned definitely. Some mistakes about assignments of carbon signals were revised by 2D NMR.The attached positions of methoxy, isoprene, rhamnose and glucose in the molecule of the compound were directly confirmed according to the correlated cross peaks in HMBC spectrum. The results of the paper indicate that HMQC and HMBC spectra exert significance on structural elucidation of new natural microcompounds.
